Due Diligence
Sanctions, PEP and Watchlist Screening
Screening against sanctions lists, politically exposed person registers and other relevant watchlists maintained by public authorities and recognised list providers.
Purpose
This screening identifies whether an individual or entity appears on a relevant sanctions, politically exposed person, or watchlist source, so the commissioning organisation can factor that exposure into its own risk decision.
Scope
Screening covers consolidated sanctions lists maintained by relevant national and international authorities, politically exposed person registers, and watchlists maintained by recognised commercial list providers, matched against the subject's name and, where available, date of birth or registration details.
Typical commissioning circumstances
- Onboarding of a new customer, supplier or counterparty.
- Periodic re-screening of an existing relationship.
- A specific transaction requiring heightened scrutiny.
Sources and methods
Screening uses licensed sanctions and watchlist data, matched using name-matching methodology designed to surface plausible matches for manual review rather than relying on exact-string matching alone.
Deliverables
A screening report listing any matches identified, the list source for each match, and an assessment of match confidence, distinguishing a confirmed match from a name similarity requiring further review.
Limitations
Screening reflects the list data available at the time of the check and is only as current as the underlying source lists. A screening result is not a determination that a matched individual or entity has engaged in wrongdoing.
Confidentiality
Screening outcomes are provided to the commissioning party only and are not published in the registry.
Review process
Where a subject disputes a screening match, they may request review through the review and correction process.
Commission an assessment
Engagements are scoped to the assessed risk of the relationship in question. Submit an enquiry to discuss scope before an engagement is commissioned.
