Recognition
The recognition framework
Recognition is governed by the Standard for Jurisdictional Recognition Arrangements (1C-STD-006). This page summarises how the framework operates in practice.
Levels of recognition
The framework recognises two roles beneath 1Cert.org: a jurisdictional certification partner, recognised to operate certification activity within a defined jurisdiction, and an authorised agency, in turn authorised in writing by a certification partner to carry out defined activity within that jurisdiction.
Criteria
An applicant for recognition as a jurisdictional certification partner must demonstrate legal standing in its jurisdiction, operating capacity to carry out the certification activity for which recognition is sought, and a methodology consistent with the standards published in the standards catalogue.
Process
Applications are assessed by the Recognition Authority function described in governance. Assessment includes verification of the applicant's legal standing and a review of its proposed operating methodology against the applicable standards. See apply for recognition for how to begin an application.
Public representation
A recognised body may describe its relationship to 1Cert.org using terms such as "accredited", "recognised" or "authorised" only once a written recognition arrangement has been concluded and recorded. 1Cert.org does not represent a body as recognised in advance of that arrangement being confirmed.
Review and withdrawal
Recognition is subject to periodic review and may be withdrawn where a recognised body no longer meets the applicable criteria. A withdrawal is reflected in the global network record for that body.
